Pittsburg Youth Academy is a non-profit Behavior Modification Program working under the umbrella of Project D.R.R. The initials stands for Development, Re-Development, and Rebirth.

We have endeavored, for the past 5 years, to help our youth become positive and productive citizens.  We have a professional staff of individuals who are truly devoted to working with troubled youth.  We work with youth between the ages of 8 and 18. What we have found is that our children think they are 3-5 years older than their age. In special cases, we have dealt with youth 6-7 years of age.

Our Director, Lonell Nolen, has been working with youth for more than 15 years. Our Assistant Director, Dr. George Johnson, has been working with hard core youth for 12 years. Our behavior Specialist, Carmen Reyes, truly has a way of getting dysfunctional youth functioning again. We have a host of community volunteers who provide support for all of our programs.

Although there has been much adversity, we have been able to stand the test of time. Our success rate is about 85%. It would be great to be able to turn every child around but some have to hit that brick wall.  They refuse to listen to their elders. It's like a child training another child without adult supervision.

Our program has seen far too many children who have gone astray. They have no regard for parents, authority, they are abusing drugs, alcohol, and many are very violent.

We have asked ourselves over and over, " What went wrong?" So many children today have decided to turn on their parents-instead of turning to them.  They think today's parents know nothing about how to deal with today's youth. They call it, "Old school versus new school."
